ABOUT US
The main Velocette Owners Club was formed in London, UK in 1957. Thereafter branches were established in North America, Australia, The Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, France, Japan and South Africa. These are all individual clubs with no formal relationship with each other, but many of the members are also members of the UK club, which caters for international membership. Our club keeps contact with the UK club, the Australians and the New Zealanders. The UK club produces a bi-monthly magazine, Fishtail , which is available to all UK club members.
The Velocette Owners Club of South Africa (The VOC of SA) was formed in 1989 when twelve Velocette enthusiasts from all over South Africa gathered at the PK le Roux dam in November. The gathering was instigated by Alan Harris, Darryl Moresby-White, Jack Cuyler, Sholto Rothbart, Jan Minnaar, Bill Averre and Stuart Fergusson. Also present were Gordon Keith, Paddy Mahaffey, Ralph Nugent, Des Truter and Chris Dean. Those attending agreed that they would keep contact with each other, exchange news and Velocette information and hold an annual re-union at a suitable venue.
Since then, annual re-unions have been held at Tom s Place (near Bloemfontein) in 1990, Verwoerd Dam (1991), Zastron (1993), Harvest Inn, Tweespruit (1997 and 1999), and at the Maluti Inn, Clarens in 2000 and 2001. In 2002 the re-union moved to the Fouriesburg Country Inn and was held there up to 2017. The re-union moved to Kestell in 2018.
In 2005, the Company Veloce, manufacturers of the Veloce and Velocette motorcycles, was 100 years old and the VOC of SA celebrated this birthday when 38 Velocette motorcycles and nearly 80 enthusiasts took over the Inn and Fouriesburg for a memorable gathering. Another celebration was held in 2013 when the name Velocette was 100 years old.
There are currently 70 members of the VOC of SA, who collectively own about 88 Velocette models, dating from 1926 to 1968. Our club communicates with its members through a quarterly newsletter and by informal contact between members. As our members are spread throughout South Africa, we do not hold meetings and our only gathering is the annual re-union. We also exhibit our bikes in the annual 1000 Bikes Show in Germiston.
The President of our club is Mike Ward, who lives in Johannesburg. Please contact Mike if you require further information about the Club.
